2019 GULF COAST DIRECTORS & ARRANGERS ACADEMY
June 11 – 14, 2019
HILTON GARDEN INN – BILOXI
648 Beach Blvd.
Biloxi, MS 39530
The Academy is designed for high school band directors, music and visual designers along with choreographers, to bring clarity and understanding of each other’s roles and how to collaborate together more efficiently and effectively. Middle school directors who perform dual roles as high school assistants are highly encouraged to participate because much of the implementation of the designer’s ideas on the field are made by these directors.
The sixteen sessions presented at the Academy are guided by some of the top designers and high school and college educators in wind band and drum & bugle corps idioms. Their ability to communicate and to reach those on all levels are keys to the success of this educational event and to the success of the participants and their programs. The Academy will also act as a resource and support system for the participants throughout the year to ensure what is learned is communicated well to our most important stakeholders, the students.
Over four days, session presenters will cover many aspects of collaborative show design, performance, music arranging, choreography, technology, and learning strategies for strong student engagement. A great benefit of this is, directors can have their 2019 show concepts evaluated by the design team to ensure their product is successfully designed to meet educational, entertainment and adjudication standards in a non-judgmental, no pressure environment. Directors and designers will have a plan for implementation that is efficient and well thought-out. Arrangers will learn techniques to make high-quality mock-ups to showcase their work without using live performers. Meeting new life-long friends and colleagues is an added bonus.
